ANNOUNCEMENT: ENRICHING THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS WITH MEMORY CHALLENGES<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brain Fitness Academy, a Ministry of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Orlando announces the Fall 2024 Semester of this success-based curriculum, available to people in Seminole and Orange Counties who are experiencing early memory changes and cognitive loss. \u00a0This is an established program throughout Central Florida. In 2013, the Brain Fitness Academy curriculum won the International Council on Active Aging\u2019s Innovators Achievement Award.\u00a0\u00a0 These days, everyone is concerned about memory health and memory preservation.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHEN<\/strong>: The structured 14-week program meets in small group sessions. New dates coming soon.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHAT TO EXPECT<\/strong>:\u00a0 Participants work on cognitive activities to strengthen language, motor and memory skills via brain exercises and word games, storytelling, sequencing activities, gratitude journaling and more. \u00a0Other important hallmarks of the curriculum include light aerobic exercise, socialization, Art and Music enrichment, cardio drumming, cooking, all of which strengthen speed of processing, retention, recall, memory and concentration. These modalities have been proven to keep individuals stable for longer, improve quality of life and self-confidence, health and well-being, as well as reduce isolation. Members must be self-sufficient (able to walk, feed oneself, and toilet).\u00a0 The goal is to slow the progression of cognitive changes and teach lifestyle adaptations while having fun in a safe and supportive environment.\u00a0\u00a0 The program has a nurse Facilitator, a Director, trained Volunteers, and welcomes Guest presenters.<\/span><\/p>\n

COST:<\/strong> Tuition for the 14-week Semester (28 classes) is unchanged at $1000 to cover salaries and expenses.\u00a0 Support, education and resources are available for caregivers with additional psychosocial needs, as well. Members bring their lunch.<\/span><\/p>\n

WHY:<\/strong> Cognitive disease is one of the top health crises of this century, devastating families, destroying one\u2019s memories and making it difficult for people to live fulfilling and independent lives.\u00a0\u00a0 However, memory loss does NOT mean the end of living.\u00a0\u00a0 Memories do Matter and we are passionate about supporting older adults!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
